DIY Flowers: how far is too far?

Flowers. I love flowers. I know exactly what I want my tables to look like. However, I'm pretty sure that, what with a house that needs rewiring, I can't afford them.

(I've only asked one florist so far, but after sending her my ideas and budget she's steadfastly failed to come back to me.)

So I've been investigating alternatives - namely tissue and crepe paper flowers, possibly for bridesmaid's bouquets and for decorating the ceremony room (I'm thinking giant balls of flowers hanging from the rafters.)

Here are my first attempts. DIY Flowers: how far is too far?

This lot took me maybe three hours to make, and their a bit rough given that I've got the wrong kind of fixing tape that's made it trickier than it need be. And they probably wouldn't be in these colours. DIY Flowers: how far is too far?

What do you think? Can I take these and some fresh foliage and do the table decorations myself? Or is that sheer madness?
