DIY Bride: what do about invitations?

Now that we’ve actually finalised the guest list (in brief – too many guests with children to invite them all; solution – explain, and don’t invite any) I’ve been spending a bit of time on the invitations.

I wasn’t sure, after the Save the Dates, I was going to make them myself or not - but there were certain elements from the STDs that I wanted to keep , and I was starting to have some pretty distinct design ideas in my head for how I wanted the invites to work.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that I am going to design them myself. But it’s printing that’s the condundrum.

The design features a tree, and has only a few colours. So I could buy a colour printer and print and fold them myself. Or I could try linocutting the tree and printing by hand before laser printing the lettering.

Or I could try and find a firm that is prepared to print the design for me.

Any suggestions?

Maybe it's akin to a professional printer suggesting you DIY on documenting your own wedding day but the lino cutting and laser printing route certainly sounds like it could be a great deal of fun (well, up until the third dozen invite perhaps) and highly personalised. If it goes wrong then there's always Option C!
